Lenihan to receive Bord Snip Nua recommendations today

Finance Minister Brian Lenihan is reportedly set to receive the recommendations of An Bord Snip Nua later today.

The group, which is officially called the Expenditure Review Committee, was set up earlier this year to identify areas where spending can be cut in an effort to plug the black hole in the public finances.

Several of its recommendations have already been leaked, including €1.5bn worth of cuts in social welfare.

This would include either the taxing or means-testing of child benefit payments.

It remains unclear if the Government will publish the proposals before the Dáil's summer break or of it will keep them under wraps until the run-up to next year's Budget.
