Summer scheme bids to tackle North's anti-social behaviour

More than 5,000 young people from across the North will take part in a summer scheme tackling anti-social behaviour, Paul Goggins said today.

A total of £200,000 (€231,000) official funding was provided by the NIO, the Criminal Justice Minister added.

Football, archery, orienteering, fishing and art are among activities on offer under the Summer Splash programme.

Mr Goggins said: “Whilst the vast majority of our young people are a credit to their communities, the Splash programme aims to reduce any potential for offending by engaging young people in constructive and relevant activities whilst giving something back for the benefit of their own community.

“From speaking to those involved in last year’s scheme, it is clear that Summer Splash schemes are making a difference locally, by involving young people in positive activities.

“I would actively encourage everyone who has the opportunity to take part to get involved,”

Community Safety Partnerships, local groups involved in combating crime, are in charge of the project.
