Flooding closes Mater Hospital

The Mater Hospital in Dublin is requesting members of the public not to attend the hospital until further notice.

Rainwater flooding has affected the accident & emergency department and some other areas, it was announced this morning.

People requiring emergency attention have been told to attend another hospital until further notice.

Patients scheduled for elective surgery today should contact the hospital prior to leaving home as their surgery appointment may also be affected.

Heavy overnight rains also resulted in a partial roof collapse in St Camillus’ Ward on the top floor of the old hospital building.

Nobody was injured and patients have been temporarily reassigned to other beds around the hospital.
