Taxi drivers stage four-hour stoppage
Taxi drivers are engaging in a four-hour work stoppage this morning as part of their ongoing campaign against the regulation of the industry.
Drivers have already staged a series of demonstrations to call for a moratorium on the issuing of new licences.
They say the market is saturated with taxis and drivers have to work up to 90 hours-a-week in order to make a decent living.
Today's four-hour stoppage, which began at 7am, has been arranged by a new Joint Taxi Council made up of the four official groups representing drivers.
The council plans to deliver hundreds of letters to the Department of Transport calling for the Taxi Regulator to be dismissed.
