The Volvo Ocean Race village in Galway city was rocked by an explosion last night.

The Volvo Ocean Race village in Galway city was rocked by an explosion last night.

A loud blast occurred at 11.20pm when a gas cylinder caught fire in the service area for the racing yachts.

Three fire units of the fire brigade were required to bring the blaze under control.

There was no evacuation needed and no injuries reported among crew members or the public.
