Committee to publish report on pork recall

An official report into the contamination of Irish pork products last December is due to be published today by the Oireachtas Agriculture Committee.

The authorities were forced to remove all Irish pig-meat products from sale across the world after tests revealed high levels of dioxin contamination.

The problem was later traced to a plant in Co Carlow that had apparently been using inappropriate oil products in the processing of pig feed.

The recall is believed to have cost the Irish economy more than €100m.
