Man who possessed semi-automatic pistol and assaulted garda to be sentenced later

A 24-year-old man who admitted to having a 9mm semi-automatic pistol and later assaulting an arresting garda is to be sentenced at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

A 24-year-old man who admitted to having a 9mm semiautomatic pistol and later assaulting an arresting garda is to be sentenced at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Wayne McNally, with addresses at Lakeshore, Holiday Village, Blessington, County Wicklow and Ross Road, Christchurch, Dublin pleaded guilty to possession of the Glock semi-automatic pistol with intent to endanger life at the Red Cow Inn, Naas Road and also to assaulting a garda at Dolphin House, Dolphin Barn on February 10, 2008.

Defence counsel, Mr Sean Gillane BL, said the second charge of assaulting the garda arose when McNally was being arrested for the first offence.

Judge Katherine Delahunt remanded McNally further in custody until his sentence date next October, when all facts will be heard in the case.
