Man held over frenzied stabbing murder

A man was arrested today by detectives probing a murder near an old cemetery in Dublin seven months ago.

David Whyte, 35, was stabbed to death in a frenzied attack last September.

A 32-year-old man was detained by officers in Portlaoise and taken to Clondalkin Garda Station for questioning.

The suspect – the second to be arrested in a week – can be held for 24 hours.

Mr Whyte, from New Cabra Road, was discovered at a derelict graveyard near Stewart’s Hospital in Palmerstown on the evening of Friday September 26.

It took detectives three days to identify his body.

A reward of €20,000 has been offered by Crimestoppers for information that could lead to the conviction of the killer of the former security guard.

Last Tuesday a man from the Blanchardstown area was quizzed over his death and released without charge.

A file was prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
