Parents urged to vaccinate children for meningitis
Today is World Meningitis Day, and health authorities are urging parents to get their children vaccinated.
In Ireland, the pneumococcal meningitis vaccine is available for babies and toddlers born after September 2006.
The Meningitis Trust says the vaccine is both necessary and urgent.
Young children are particularly vulnerable to pneumococcal meningitis, which can be fatal.
