HSE reports huge increase in elder abuse cases

The number of reported cases of elder abuse more than doubled last year, according to new figures published today.

The HSE says around 1,800 cases of alleged or suspected abuse of the elderly were referred to it during 2008, compared with 927 cases in 2007.
