Two motorists killed in separate crashes

Two motorists were killed today in separate car crashes in Leinster.

Garda are examining the scenes in Co Kildare and Co Laois and probing how another two lives have been taken in road traffic accidents.

The latest fatalities take the number of those killed so far this year to 64.

A woman died when her car and a lorry were in collision on the Kilcock to Clane Road near Painstown at 1.55pm.

Within 20 minutes a man was killed and his female passenger seriously injured when his car left the road at The Heath, about four kilometres east of Portlaoise.

AA Roadwatch warned the R407 is shut in both direction between Baltracey Cross and Painstown Cross while the M7 is closed southbound from J15 Mountmellick to J17 Portlaoise.

Diversions are in place.
