Some of the ‘old reliables’ hit

The price of 20 cigarettes is to increase by 25c tonight, it was announced by Finance Minister Brian Lenihan this afternoon.

The price of diesel is also set to change, increasing by five cent per litre. Both increases are VAT inclusive.

However, excise duties on petrol and alcohol remain unchanged, as Lenihan claimed that it would only lead to increased cross-border shopping.
