Viable explosive made safe in Limerick

A viable improvised explosive device (IED) was made safe this evening at Ballysheedy, Co Limerick following a planned Garda search.

This is the same area where two devices were made safe on Friday night.

The IED was made safe after the team arrived at approximately 7pm following a Garda request to attend.

It did contain explosive content, but no controlled explosion was carried out.

It was wrapped to protect from the elements, possibly for intended use elsewhere.

The bomb disposal officer gave the all-clear at approximately 8.25pm.

Separately, an elaborate hoax was examined in North King Street, Dublin following an arrest made by gardaí.

The team arrived on scene at 8.25pm following a Garda request to attend.

No controlled explosion was carried out. The bomb disposal officer gave the all-clear at 9.40pm.

In both cases, remains of the device and hoax will be handed over to gardaí for investigation into these incidents.
