Kenny attacks Government’s handling of health service
The Leader of Fine Gael says if he gets into Government, he will reform the health service to make it one of the most cost-effective in the world.
Enda Kenny says he will introduce a system whereby hospitals will be given mandatory targets and that in itself, will determine, the level of funding granted.
He made his remarks at the opening of the 75th Fine Gael Ard Fheis.
Opening his Party's Ard Fheis tonight, Enda Kenny attacked the Government's record on reform of the Health service.
He said he was sickened by the fact that the HSE spends €51m per year on public relations and spin doctors while people are dying due to a lack of resources.
Enda Kenny said that under Fine Gael’s proposals, he will move towards the Dutch system, where everyone has mandatory private health insurance, either subsidised or fully financed by the State.
He said the provision of health care has to be fair and accessible to all and if returned to Government, Fine Gael will deliver on its promise.
