Six years for cocaine in car

A 32-year-old Dublin man who was described by a judge as "vulnerable" has been jailed for six years for possessing €64,000 of cocaine in his car.

Judge Desmond Hogan suspended the last 12 months of the seven-year sentence he gave to Keith Daly in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, accepting that the father-of-one was a "vulnerable" man with a "suggestible type personality"

Daly of Kiltipper Gate, Tallaght pleaded guilty to possessing two bags with 925.5g of cocaine in his vehicle in a Rathcoole carpark off the Naas Road on November 11, 2008.

Detective Garda Oliver Hackett of the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation told prosecution counsel, Mr Sean Gillane BL, that Daly admitted the bags contained cocaine when he was caught by gardaí, and told them the drugs belonged to third parties.

Judge Hogan accepted Daly’s involvement in the drugs trade was "at the lower end of the scale" and ordered him to complete a drug treatment programme on his release from prison.
