Cork residents swamped with fly infestation
Cork's City Council has said it is working to alleviate huge problems with flies after it was swamped with calls from locals living near the Kinsale Road Landfill site.
Residents in Douglas on the south side of the city fear that flies - the common house fly and two species of bluebottles, which are attracted to rotting organic matter - could spread infection.
In a statement the council said the problems are arising from landfilling at the most elevated portion of the site and they're currently covering the area with soil.
This work is expected to be largely completed by tomorrow evening
Additional immediate measures have also been put in place to deal with reported problems with flies.
