Gardaí are warning of traffic congestion in central Dublin today as taxi drivers take part in a mass protest.

The drivers are to congregate at three different locations in the suburbs of the city and make their way to Merrion Square to demonstrate outside Government Buildings for an hour.

The angry drivers have held several protests in the capital demanding a cap on the number of new cabs being put on the roads.

Gardaí said the drivers would meet at Airways Retail Park, Swords, and Liffey Valley and Stillorgan shopping centres at noon.

It is expected they will form a convoy through the city and arrive at Merrion Square at 1.30pm.

A Garda spokesman said: “Parking restrictions will be in place in Merrion Square, Fitzwilliam Street Upper and Lower and will be in place until after this protest.

“Gardaí will be monitoring the protest and would request the travelling public to be mindful of possible delays and plan accordingly.”
