Taoiseach Brian Cowen has said that the country is in “unprecedented times", refusing to rule out the prospect of future public sector pay cuts as well as possible increased taxation, including the imposition of a property tax.

Taoiseach Brian Cowen has said that the country is in “unprecedented times", refusing to rule out the prospect of future public sector pay cuts as well as possible increased taxation, including the imposition of a property tax.

Speaking on RTÉ Radio One today, Mr Cowen said that a collapse in tax revenues was one of the principle challenges facing the country.
