Two men have appeared in court in Galway charged in connection with the discovery of a pipe bomb at a garda station on Friday night.

Two men have appeared in court in Galway charged in connection with the discovery of a pipe bomb at a garda station on Friday night.

A 23-year-old man from Ballybane in Galway and a 26-year-old from Clondalkin in Dublin were arrested in the Midlands under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

They appeared at a special sitting of Galway District Court last night where they were charged with the unlawful possession of a firearm.

They have both been remanded in custody to appear in court again on Friday.

Millstreet Garda Station and a local bar were evacuated after the pipe bomb, described by the Army Bomb Disposal Team as viable, was discovered.
