A woman died in a house fire in a quiet residential cul-de-sac today.

A woman died in a house fire in a quiet residential cul-de-sac today.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze at Quayside Close, in Newry, Co Down, was mounted by police.

The alarm was raised at around 7.45am by a neighbour out walking his dog who spotted smoke coming from the house, said police.

The woman, understood to be in her 50s, was unconscious when she was taken from the house by firefighters and she died soon afterwards.
