Dept refuses to comment on reported Anglo interest

The Department of Finance is refusing to comment on reports that a consortium is in talks to take a majority stake in Anglo Irish Bank.

The group is reportedly willing to invest €5bn in the troubled bank and install a new senior management team.

However, reports this morning say the consortium, made up of Irish and foreign investors, has informed the State that its interest in Anglo is on hold while investigations into the bank are ongoing.
