Teacher from the North dies after attack in Romania
A school teacher from the North has died after being assaulted in Romania.
Jenny Buchanan, from Greencastle, Co Antrim, was visiting friends in the country when she was apparently attacked.
She was on leave from her job as a careers teacher at Glengormley High School due to ill-health.
While it is still unclear when she was injured, her family was informed of her death yesterday.
School colleagues and pupils paid tribute today to a “caring and committed” teacher.
“Mrs Jenny Buchanan was a valued member of staff for many years and had been head of our careers service since 1997,” said the school in a statement.
“She was a committed, caring teacher who had excellent relations with pupils and colleagues.
“As head of careers she advised numerous sixth years on higher education options.
“Although Mrs Buchanan had been on long-term sick leave, the school community is deeply shocked by this tragic news.”
