Coughlan reiterates threat to impose price controls
The Tánaiste and Enterprise Minister Mary Coughlan has reiterated her threat to introduce legislation to control prices if retailers fail to reduce prices on their own.
Ms Coughlan was speaking in the Dáil after facing opposition criticism for not taking any action to tackle high prices in the Irish economy.
She said the law would be changed if retailers were not more transparent about their prices.
The Oireachtas Enterprise Committee is currently examining why prices in the Republic are so much higher than they are north of the border and in the UK.
