Bomb planted close to Belfast flats defused

A crude bomb was defused close to a block of apartments in north Belfast today.

Police described it as “an extremely crude but viable” device, and said it had been removed for further examination after being made safe by army bomb disposal experts.

The area around the scene of the discovery – a car park close to apartments at Antrim Close off the Antrim Road in the Skegoneill area – was sealed off for several hours.

Detectives were trying to establish what was behind the planting of the device and appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
