Cullen meets protesting workers at Waterford Crystal

Minister Martin Cullen was greeted by angry workers this afternoon as he paid a visit to the Waterford Crystal plant in Kilbarry.

The Minister for Tourism, who is also the local TD, spoke to staff on the fourth day of their protest against the factory's closure.

Workers have been staging a sit-in at the factory since being told on Friday that more than half of the 670-strong workforce were to be made redundant and operations halted until a buyer is found.

Negotiations have been continuing today on the latest buy-out bid from US consortium Clarion Capital, which it’s hoped could save some jobs.
