Irishman wanted in UK for stabbing brother agrees to extradition
A 32-year-old Irishman has consented to his extradition back to the UK, where he is wanted on charges of stabbing of his brother and for escaping from custody.
Today the High Court was informed that Patrick Sweeney with an address at Rathbraugh Park, Sligo had agreed to be sent back to Britain where he is charged with the wounding with intent of his brother and father of three children Michael Sweeney outside his (Michael's) home at John Buck House, London NW 2 on December 1st 2004.
In a warrant seeking Mr Sweeney's extradition it is alleged that Michael Sweeney was stabbed following an altercation involving his brother and two other men who had called to Michael's home on the night in question.
The British authorities were further seeking Mr Sweeney's extradition on charges that in November 2005 he escaped from the lawful custody of orderlies at a hospital after he had been remanded in custody for assessment.
It is claimed that Mr Sweeney absconded a week before he was due before Harrow Crown Court in connection with the stabbing offences.
The High Court heard that a warrant seeking Patrick Sweeney's extradition, after it was discovered that he had been residing in Sligo, was issued in July of last year.
Mr Sweeney was subsequently arrested, and today told the Court that he wished to return to the UK.
Mr Justice Michael Peart said that he was satisfied to make an order for the surrender of Mr Sweeney, who he said had obtained legal advice.
