Govt preparing response to possible Dell job cuts
The Government has reportedly prepared a plan to deal with the possible loss of 2,000 jobs at the Dell plant in Limerick.
There are growing fears that the US computer giant will shed two-thirds of its 3,000-strong workforce in Raheen as part of a restructuring plan.
Thousands more ancillary jobs that are dependent on the plant could also be at risk.
The Tánaiste, Mary Coughlan, and Defence Minister Willie O'Dea have travelled to Texas to discuss the situation with Dell executives.
Mr O'Dea, a local TD in Limerick, is quoted this morning as saying that the Government has been working behind the scenes to draw up a response in the event of any job losses in the new year.
