Justice Minister defends cut in Equality Authority funding

Justice Minister Dermot Ahern is defending his decision to cut the budget of the Equality Authority.

The issue has seen Niall Crowley resign as CEO.

He claimed he had no alternative following a 43% cut in the authority's funding.

Dermot Ahern said the reduced budget for his department had to be prioritised.

Meanwhile, the Equality and Rights Alliance says the information on the Equality Authority being given to the Government by the Minister for Justice is wrong.

The organisation says figures on the Equality Authority's spending being used by Dermot Ahern are misleading and inaccurate.
