Police in the North are investigating a so-called tiger kidnapping in which a mother and her two children were held hostage.

Police in the North are investigating a so-called tiger kidnapping in which a mother and her two children were held hostage.

The three were held captive in a van while the woman's partner was forced to steal cash from the shop where he works.

He was told to drive to Marks and Spencer in Lisburn and hand over the stolen cash to the thieves, who are understood to have escaped with tens of thousands of pounds.

The family were not hurt during the incident.
