British man quizzed over Ranelagh stabbing
Gardaí were today quizzing a 43-year-old UK national after a woman was found stabbed to death in a flat.
The victim, 28, was discovered with serious head injuries at the property on Ranelagh Road, south Dublin, at around 7pm yesterday.
She was rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital where she later died.
Gardaí said a 43-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is being questioned at nearby Donnybrook Garda Station.
He can be held without charge until tomorrow, under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
The flat, which is part of a private accommodation complex for homeless people, has been sealed off for Garda technical officers to carry out an examination.
“A post mortem on the victim’s body will be carried out this morning at Dublin City Morgue,” said a Garda spokeswoman.
The fatal stabbing comes two days after 46-year-old Celine Cawley was brutally killed at her home in Howth, an exclusive suburb in the north of the capital.
The successful advertising professional was found lying on the patio at the rear of her coastal home with severe injuries.
It is thought Ms Cawley was beaten about the head and face after she struggled with an intruder at the back of the gated property.
