The head of the Garda Inspectorate says the State needs to focus on preventing gangland crime rather than dealing with its consequences.

Kathleen O'Toole made her comments in an interview with the Law Society Gazette.

Using Limerick as an example, she said police weren't going to solve the problem and a collaborative approach was needed to focus on crime prevention.
