A Kinsealy teenager who took part in a drunken unprovoked attack on a man who attempted to break up a group of youths fighting on their debs night has been given a two-and-a-half-year sentence.

Philip Ahern (aged 18), and his co-accused Stephen Cahill (aged 19), offered their "college funds" totalling €21,000, as compensation but their offer was turned down by their victim, who lost eight teeth and required plastic surgery.
