A young Irish soldier will be sentenced to community service next year for smashing a pint glass into another soldier’s face while drunk in a Dublin pub.

Private Patrick Whelan (aged 25) of Coultry Way, Ballymun told gardaí he was so intoxicated he can’t clearly remember hitting Private Aaron Boyne in the face with a Bulmer’s glass in Flannery’s Pub, Camden Street after a brief row over the injured party’s girlfriend on August 23, 2007.
