Govt to face Dáil questions over pork industry crisis
The Government is expected to face tough questions on the pork industry crisis when the Dáil begins its weekly business this afternoon.
The dioxin contamination scare, which could cost the industry up to €1bn, is set to dominate proceedings at Leinster House.
All Irish pork and bacon products have been removed from shops across the world and hundreds of workers in the processing sector have been laid off.
The opposition is vowing the put the Government under pressure today over its response to the contamination, as well as its proposals for rebuilding the industry and restoring consumer confidence.
Questions will be asked about who will foot the bill, with the Taoiseach already saying he intends to apply for EU aid.
