Man pleads guilty to manslaughter of Latvian fisherman

A man has pleaded guilty to killing a fisherman on a trawler in Howth Harbour two years ago.

Sergejs Lavrinovics (aged 35), of no fixed address, pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty of the manslaughter of Igors Bondarenko (aged 35), a Latvian fisherman, on a date unknown between September 18 and October 4, 2006 on a trawler known as ‘Miraculous’, which was berthed in Howth Harbour, Howth, Co Dublin.

Two other men pleaded guilty to throwing the deceased’s body overboard.

Andrijans Ubelis and Freddy Grenzman pleaded guilty to assisting Lavrinovics by throwing the body overboard with the intent to impede the apprehension or prosecution of Lavrinovics.

All three men will be sentenced in front of Mr Justice Paul Carney next February.
