Irish forces serving in Chad will receive Christmas presents from their families in the coming days.

Around 400 parcels are being sent there by the Defence forces, to members of the 98th infantry battalion who are currently deployed on a four month mission to the Goz Beida region.

Another 36 tonnes of supplies and equipment are also being sent to Camp Ciara, which lies 1,000km overland.

Defence Forces Spokesperson Gavin Young said conditions are tough but the parcels will lift spirits.
