IRHA president to step aside after RTÉ revelations

The president of the Irish Road Haulage Association is to temporarily step aside from the position following a 'Prime Time' investigation into the treatment of migrant workers.

Co Louth trucker Jimmy Quinn featured briefly in the programme last night, which examined the conditions faced by migrant workers in a number of sectors, including haulage.

In a statement today, the IRHA said Mr Quinn was in the process of lodging a libel complaint against RTÉ and would step aside until that complaint was dealt with.

Meanwhile, the association also says it plans to do investigate 'Prime Time's accusations against three named haulage companies.

It has sought meetings with the Department of Transport and the Road Safety Authority to discuss the situation.
