Taoiseach plays down bank-merger speculation

The Taoiseach is playing down speculation about the possible merger of Irish banks and the use of private funds to re-capitalise institutions.

It follows statements from two of the main Irish banks today - Bank of Ireland says it has been approached by a number of parties wishing to invest in the group.
