Dáil speeches welcome Obama election victory in US
The leaders of Ireland's political parties have been using Dáil time this morning to congratulate Barack Obama on his election as US President.
The Taoiseach Brian Cowen said he wished Senator Obama well in his new role and looked forward to having a good relationship with his administration.
Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny described Mr Obama's victory as stunning and wished him well with the monumental responsibility he has been given by the American people.
Elsewhere, Labour Party leader Eamon Gilmore said the outcome of the US election showed the sense of renewal and fresh hope that a change of government can bring to a country.
