Car's movements may help find gangland gunman

Detectives investigating a gangland-style gun attack were today trying to trace the movements of a stolen Honda that is believed to have been the getaway car.

Robert Delaney, 27, remains in a critical condition in hospital after being shot in the head at an apartment in Tallaght, south Co Dublin early yesterday.

Gardaí have issued an appeal for sightings of an unregistered White Honda Integra ’R’ car stolen from a garage on the Naas Road yesterday morning

It was found close by at Mountpellier View an hour after the attack at 7.30am.

Mr Delaney was hit by a bullet through a third-floor window when he looked out after the gunman had knocked at the door below.

It is understood that his two young children and girlfriend were in the apartment in Russell Rise, near Fortunestown Way, at the time of the attack.

Meanwhile, a 20-year-old man was arrested early today over the killing of Gavin McCarthy on Sunday – the 14th gun murder victim this year.

The 24-year-old was shot dead in Dublin’s north inner city on Sheriff Street at around 9pm.

Detectives believe his suspected killer cycled up to him and shot him dead at point-blank range.

Gardaí said the man was arrested in the north inner city area and is being held at Store Street Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act.

He can be questioned for up to 72 hours.
