Uniformed gardaí to be given pepper-spray canisters

Gardaí are to be given pepper-spray canisters to improve their safety and help them deal with violent situation.

Justice Minister Dermot Ahern is set to announce today that the canisters will be given to all uniformed and unarmed officers.

The announcement will be made a ceremony for the latest recruits to graduate from the Garda College in Templemore.
