Gardaí confirm name of man shot dead on Sheriff Street

Gardaí have released the name of the man who was shot dead in Dublin last night.

He was 21-year-old Gavin McCarthy of Oriel Street Lower in the north inner city.

Mr McCarthy was shot a number of times in the face outside a takeaway on Sheriff Street at around 9pm in a suspected gangland attack.

He was taken by car to the Mater Hospital, but pronounced dead a short time later.

The assailant, who made his getaway on a dark coloured bicycle, is thought to be aged between 17 and 19.
