No waiver system for refuse charges in seven local authority areas, report finds

The Ombudsman has found that seven local authorities around the country have no waiver system in place for refuse-collection charges.

A new report, released today by Emily O'Reilly, describes the way refuse collections are organised as “a shambles”.

The waiver system is designed to exempt low income households from having to pay fees.

The average value of an annual waiver varies from €40 to €375.
