Gardaí in Dublin launched an investigation today after an explosive device was handed into Finglas garda station by a member of the public.

Gardaí in Dublin launched an investigation today after an explosive device was handed into Finglas garda station by a member of the public.

The Army Bomb Disposal Unit arrived at the scene at around 1pm this afternoon after being alerted by the Gardaí.

They carried out an examination and found that it was a viable improvised explosive device.

No controlled explosion was carried out, but the device did contain explosive content.

It was made safe, dismantled and handed over to gardaí for further investigation.

The all-clear was given just before 2pm.
