Petrol bombing suspected in garda station fire
A part-time garda station was badly damaged today in a suspected petrol bomb attack.
The building in Blarney, Co Cork was broken into and set on fire in the early hours of the morning.
Gardaí said substantial smoke damage was done to the station, which was closed at the time.
One unit of Cork City Fire Brigade attended the scene shortly after 5am and extinguished the fire in just over an hour.
Two local gardaí were on patrol in the area at the time.
It is understood a petrol bomb was used to start the blaze and two cars parked close to the station were also badly damaged.
No arrests have been made and gardaí at Gurranabraher have launched an investigation into the fire.
Last July, the disused Blarney Park Hotel leisure centre beside the garda station was destroyed in a suspicious fire.
