Legionnaire's disease bacteria found at Galway hospital

The bacterium that causes Legionnaire's disease has been detected at Galway University Hospital.

The bacterium that causes Legionnaire's disease has been detected at Galway University Hospital.

The Health Service Executive has confirmed that a higher than normal reading for legionella was identified in the hospital's Paediatrics Department last week.

In a statement, the HSE said it immediately removed the affected sinks out of service and there is no risk to patients.

They said it is extremely important to stress that no patients have been diagnosed with Legionnaire's disease.
