Boy, 14, held in connection with nightclub petrol bombing

A 14-year-old boy has today been remanded in custody in connection with the petrol bombing of a nightclub in Newcastle West in Limerick during the early hours of Sunday morning.

A 14-year-old boy has today been remanded in custody in connection with the petrol bombing of a nightclub in Newcastle West in Limerick during the early hours of Sunday morning.

He is accused of causing criminal damage at the nightclub, and of stealing a car earlier the same night.

A second person - Joseph Barden (aged 22) of Clarina Avenue, Ballinacurra, Weston - was also remanded in custody on the same charges.

According to gardaí, a small fire broke out at Fireworks nightclub in Newcastle West and a number of windows were smashed during the incident at around 4am yesterday morning.

Staff working at the time escaped injury.

The boy cannot be named for legal reasons.
