Gardaí seize thousands of unlicensed DVDs

Thousands of unlicensed DVDs worth up to €400,000 were seized today from five commercial premises in Dublin city centre.

Gardaí said a total of 7,800 DVDs taken from stores will be handed over to the Film Classification Office.

The searches were carried out by officers from Pearse Street and Harcourt Terrace garda stations under the Video Recordings Act 1989.

No arrests were made and files will be prepared for the Director Of Public Prosecution.

The raids were part of Operation Harbour and followed similar searches at the end of July and earlier this month which resulted in the seizure of 1,980 DVDs with a retail value of €110,000.

A garda spokesman said 9,780 goods worth up to half a million euro have been seized to date.
