Mandate trade union has written to Superquinn chairman Simon Burke seeking assurances for the job securtiy of its 3,000 members employed at the supermarket chain.

Select Retail Holdings, the chain's owner, recently confirmed that it had received inquiries about a possible sale.

Mandate assistant general secretary Gerry Light, who represents the workers in Superquinn, has said his members were concerned and would like clarification on the matter as soon as possible.

Mr Light added that it was essential the jobs at the chain were maintained and not compromised in any way through any potential sale.
