Call issued for blood donations

The Irish Blood Transfusion Service's 'Blood for Life' week is underway.

The initiative is aimed at increasing public awareness of the importance of giving blood, and encouraging people to become regular blood donors.

Chief Executive of the IBTS, Andrew Kelly, has said donating regularly can save many lives.

"We need regular donations of blood and of platelets. September can be a poor time of year for donations, so it’s important at this time of year to give us some extra donations going into the autumn," he said.
